AbstractSIMBIOS is financially supported by the Italian Ministry of Research and aims at the investigation of the Sardinia Sea and Sardinia Channel. These two areas are directly connected to the Algerian basin where the circulation is mainly driven by mesoscale activity. Five oceanographic cruises were organised bewteem 2000 and 2002 involving hydrodynamics and biochemical measurements. A diagnostic ocean circulation model was used to study the surface dynamics
