| Abstract | The main aims of the Project ICTIOEVA are to estimate the spawning stock biomass of the important commercial pelagic species through direct methods of evaluation, Egg Production Methods (MPH), and evaluating its fluctuations in relation to environmental variables through the analysis of the horizontal abundance and distribution of early stages (eggs and larvae) and the application of models of eggs vertical distribution in the water column, with the data from the continuous sampler CUFES, thermosalinometer, CTD's.
This project is focused on: sardine (Sardina pilchardus), mackerel (Scomber scombrus) and horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) of Northeast Atlantic (ICES Divisions XIa north, VIIIc&b and anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) of Cadiz Gulf and Algarve (IXa south).
The aim in 2009 is to estimate the spawning stock biomass of sardine from 36º to 48ºN with others institutions (IEO, IPIMAR and AZTI), and also the spawning biomass of anchovy of the Cadiz Gulf.
In 2010, the IEO will participate in the mackerel/horse mackerel egg surveys in the western and southern area for the assessment of the spawning stock biomass in the Northeast Atlantic coordinated by the ICES Working Group on Mackerel and Horse Mackerel Egg Surveys (WGMEGS).
In 2011, the IEO and IPIMAR (Portugal) will estimate the spawning stock biomass of Atlantic-Iberian sardine applying the Daily Egg Production Method (DEPM) and the anchovy of the Cadiz Gulf coordinated by the ICES Working Group on Acoustic and Egg Surveys for Sardine and Anchovy in ICES areas VIII and IX.
