| Description | |
| Abstract | The AMMA program is international and of French initiative. AMMA is an internationally coordinated project that studies the West African monsoon, its daily to interanual variability and its links with the socio-economic aspects. The scientific problem of AMMA is to understand the mechanisms of the West African Monsoon and its components: atmospheric dynamics, the continental water cycle, atmospheric chemistry and surface conditions of the ocean and the continent.
More precisely, AMMA has three objectives:
1) Improve our understanding of the monsoon in West Africa and its impact on the physical, chemical and biological environment at the regional and global scales.
2) Provide the basis of scientific knowledge that will establish the links between climate variability and health issues, water resources and food security and to define appropriate surveillance strategies.
3) Ensure that the multidisciplinary research carried out within AMMA benefits to forecasting and decision making.
The first phase ran from 02/2002 to end of 2009. The second phase has been underway since 2010 ans is planned until 2020.
AMMA France is part of the program which France is responsible. |
