| Abstract | Carol is a microwave radiometer observations designed to validate and improve the algorithms for data processing of the radiometer on board the satellite for Earth observation SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) to estimate the water content of soil and the ocean salinity. The SMOS project is led by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the launch of the satellite was successfully Nov. 2, 2009.
Made by CETP (LATMOS), in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark and Technical Division of INSU, CAROL operates at the same frequency as the SMOS radiometer (1.4 GHz) and can be boarded from the research aircraft ATR42 Météo France managed by the UMS SAFIRE (CNRS-INSU / Météo France / CNES).
The aim will be to provide multiconfiguration independent measurements be used to assess the quality of SMOS data. |
