| Description | |
| Abstract | The
aim of the project was to test, develop and approbate for Latvian conditions
the new, sensitive bioindication methods for identification of anthropogenic
pollution in the brackish and freshwater environments. Bioindication methods
included oxidative stress biomarkers (GST, CAT, GR), neurotoxic stress
biomarker (AchE) and heavy metal exposure biomarker (MT). Seasonal dynamic of
biomarkers was analyzed in different species of freshwater and brackishwater bivalve
mollusks along with abiotic environmental factors. Acute and chronic toxicity
tests were performed with phytoplankton, zooplankton and zoobenthos species to
select the most sensitive local species. Testobject culture collection was
established for the use in future ecotoxicological
studies.
