| Description | |
| Abstract | PIRATA (Prediction and Research Moored Array in the Tropical Atlantic), extension of PIRATA (Pilot Research morred Array in the Tropical Atlantic), is a program of operational oceanography worked out by a group of scientists involved in the activities of CLIVAR (Climate Variability and Predictability Program) and carried out in the context of a multinational co-operation.
The objective of PIRATA is the study of the ocean-atmosphere interactions in the tropical Atlantic and of their role in regional climatic variability (seasonal, interannual, or longer scales).
By the assimilation of the PIRATA data in the numerical models of oceanic and atmospheric circulation, we should be able to better understand and simulate variabilities of the climatology of the tropical Atlantic (from seasonal to interannual varability).
This should allow a notable progress in the realization of climatic predictions, in particular for the modes of precipitations on the zones of the North-East of Brazil and of the West Africa. |
