| Abstract | The "Fisheries Information System" (FIS) from Ifremer is the sustainable and operational network of observation of fishery resources and associated uses. Its objectives are to produce, manage and develop quality data (biological, environmental, economic), relevant for understanding the dynamics of the "fisheries system". To meet these objectives, it is structured around generic actions, grouped into two projects, FIS-Uses and FIS-Resources (sih.ifremer.fr).
The pooled and collected data in the actions "Fishing statistics and Fleets Activity" and "Economic data" aim to the knowledge of the fishery activity and the economic situation of French fleets. The data from these different actions, collected from the Directorate of Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture (DMFA) on the one hand and the network of observers of FIS on the other hand, is stored in a common database, Harmonie.
The data available in the FIS and used in this study are as follows :
administrative data :
The French Community Fishing Fleet Register (CFFR) references all commercial fishing vessels registered in the national fishing fleet register, their technical characteristics and their registration place (source : DPMA).
declarative data :
The declarative data include data on catches and fishing effort, indicated by the professionals in the logbooks for vessels whose overall length is greater than or equal to 10 meters and fishing forms for vessels whose overall length is less than 10 meters. These data are supplied by vessel, date, gear (mesh / dimension), area and species (source : DPMA).
activity survey data :
Activity survey data are reconstructed from the data of fishing trip and sales, supplemented where necessary through discussion with fishing boat owners and their professional representatives. The surveys are conducted by the network of FIS observers, for all vessels in the CFFR. The aim is to reconstruct the annual activity calendar of vessels. The data contain, per vessel and per month, the list of métiers practiced, the two main fishing areas per métier and the associated range and the monthly fishing effort (number of days at sea, fishing and men on board) (source : Ifremer - DPMA).
VMS data :
VMS (Vessel Monitoring System) data are administrative data of positioning satellite tracking of vessels equipped with a GPS system. They provide, from a treatment algorithm, a better estimate the efforts spatialized (source : DPMA). |
