| Abstract | The project has been carried out under supervision of Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and financed by the National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management. It is an obligatory task of Poland arising from the Helsinki Convention. The objective of the project it is to control water quality (nutrients and oxygen concentration) of the sea as well condition of the biological communities (phytoplankton, zooplankton and macrozoobenthos) six times a year. Once a year, the degree of pollution of the fish and bottom sediment at selected stations is controlled as well. The results of the measurements are the basis for the national yearly assessments of the marine environment state and the data are sent to HELCOM Data Bank in ICES in Copenhagen.
