| Abstract | This project is complex study on marine ecosystem, the state of the marine environment and factors, pressure and loads affected it, in order to amplify the existing knowledge of marine waters of Latvia by increasing the amount of information (data, observations, measurements, etc.). Supplemented information will be used for developing new indicators and assessment of environmental status of marine waters with existing indicators, as well as for specifying the natural and anthropogenic factors affecting the state of the marine environment and the resulting pressure to it essential for the successful implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56 / EC) in Latvia. It established a framework within which Member States shall take the necessary measures to achieve or maintain good environmental status in the marine environment by the year 2020 at the latest. On the basis of the assessment and project results it will be able to establish a comprehensive set of environmental targets in order to guide process towards achieving good environmental status in the marine environment. In the project each workpackage individually presents qualitative descriptors for determining good environmental status, similar to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
