| Abstract | The general objective of the project is the revision of the Management Plan and Regulation of the DDBR (natural protected area, Natura 2000 site, Biosphere Reserve) aiming at increasing the degree of protection and conservation of biodiversity. Through the implementation of the project, an overall and detailed review of the species and habitats of both Community interest and those with a high degree of vulnerability will be carried out. The Management Plan of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve is the primary tool for the DDBRA to be able to operate properly in the protected area it has in custody of. The deficiencies of the current Management Plan based on which actions are taken to protect the biodiversity of the Danube Delta are: lack of mapping for species and habitats, lack of monitoring plans and, in addition, in 2020 the current plan has become invalid. The project contributes directly to obtaining an accurate mapping of species and habitats, an action plan and measures to improve the conservation status of species and habitats of Community importance in accordance with GEO 57/2007 on the regime of natural protected areas, conservation of natural habitats, wild flora and fauna, and GD no. 230/2003 regarding the delimitation of biosphere reserves, national parks and natural parks and the establishment of their administrations.
The expected results can be summarized as follows:
- Inventory and mapping of wild species of Community interest in order to determine measures for maintaining/improving the conservation status of species and habitats of Community importance in the DDBR, by making 312 maps on the distribution and conservation status (ROSCI0065 - habitats: 29, plants: 5, mammals: 7, fish: 15, amphibians & reptiles: 5, invertebrates: 9, ROSCI0066 - habitats: 4, mammals: 2, fish: 5, sturgeon/shad feeding habitats: 5, ROSPA0031 - birds: 226).
- Updating the DDBRA geospatial database with the results of the inventory and mapping of wild species of Community interest (312 maps).
- Performing a socio-economic study to assess anthropogenic pressures and threats and the relationship between communities and protected areas.
- Raising awareness, education and involvement of communities on the protection of the biodiversity of the Danube Delta.
- Elaborating the action plan necessary to protect the biodiversity of the Danube Delta for the next 10 years.
- Reviewing the monitoring plan for species and habitats in the DDBR by elaborating studies for monitoring and evaluating the conservation status of species and habitats of Community importance, as well as establishing measures for maintaining/improving their favorable conservation status.
- Revising the Regulation (Rules of Procedure) of the DDBRA.
- Strengthening the administrative capacity of the DDBRA by purchasing equipment necessary for monitoring and carrying out the activity of biodiversity protection.
NIMRD's core activities in the project are: Inventory and mapping of fish and cetacean species in ROSCI0066 and Inventory and mapping of feeding habitats of all sturgeon and shad species in ROSCI0066.
