| Abstract |
Mersin Bay is a region under intense human pressure, where economic activities such as agriculture, fishing, industrial areas, maritime transport and coastal tourism take place. On the other hand, the Mediterranean is the region where the effects of climate change are felt the most and the sea water is warmed the most. A monitoring study has been developed within the scope of the "Clean Mediterranean" protocol in order to understand the current situation in Mersin Bay, which is under all these intense pressures, and to develop forward-looking management plan proposals.
Within the scope of the Clean Mediterranean-Mersin project carried out with the METU Institute of Marine Sciences and Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, measurements and analyzes were carried out in Mersin Bay and its coasts, both in the areas where the streams meet the sea, and at designated points in the sea, in order to monitor the water quality on the coasts of Mersin and to identify possible sources of pollution.
