| Abstract | The integrated monitoring programme shall generate relevant information for assessing the current state of the marine ecosystem and progress towards achieving good ecological status (GES), in terms of appropriate indicators for the environmental objectives set accordingly. Art. 10, within the specific sub-programmes corresponding to the 11 Descriptors of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56/EC) (MSFD).
The general objective is to monitor the biological components, physicochemical elements and hydrogeomorphological compartments - water and sediment in 2023 and 2024, in order to know the evolution of the ecological status of the marine environment.
The framework content of the annual monitoring reports (2023 and 2024) will take into account the grouping of descriptors, as follows:
- For the assessment of pressures and impacts on the marine environment, the following will be taken into account: biological pressures (D2 Non-native species, D3 Commercial species of fish and molluscs), physical pressures (D6 Seabed integrity, D7 Hydrographic changes), nutrients, contaminants, waste, energy (D5 Eutrophication, D8 Contaminants, D9 Contaminants from fish and other living resources, D10 Marine litter, D11 Noise and energy) as referred to in Annex III to the Directive.
- Marine ecological diversity, i.e. the state of the marine ecosystem, will be addressed by combining the descriptors D1 Biodiversity, D3 Commercial species of fish and mollusks, D4 Food web and D6 Seabed integrity, as they comprise the biological components on the basis of which ecological status is assessed. Monitoring sub-programmes for species (mammals, fish) and habitats (benthic and pelagic) are included.
