| Abstract | The CYBO project is a multiyear project aimed to study the seasonal and inter-annual variability of the general circulation of the Cyprus-SE Levantine basins, Eastern Mediterranean Sea, simultaneously at the coastal and open deep sea areas around Cyprus. The CYBO cruises are aimed at obtaining reliable and high spatial resolution CTD data from a telescopic grid of stations, with 5-10 nm in the near coastal waters of Cyprus and 15-30 nm at the open sea. The seasonal oceanographic cruises were carried out twice a year and data were collected down to 1900m depth, on board of the Cyprus EDT surveying vessels Flying Enterprice, Argonaut, Crion, Ares and the Greek R/V Aegaeo.
In the frame of international scientific co-operation in April 1999 cruise, an inter calibration exercise of the used profilers was carried out between the German R/V Meteor and the Cyprus surveying vessel Argonaut.
All the CYBO data were subject to QC procedures following the MEDAR/MEDATLAS II requirements. Also these data sets were used to build the new MEDAR/MEDATLAS II oceanographic climatology of the Mediterranean Sea. |
