| Description | |
| Abstract | The objective of EUROSEISMIC was to generate and develop a central metadatabase for geophysical data derived from marine seismic surveys for the European Seas. During the project it was decided to combine this into a new service module in the EU-SeaSed webservice, which provides a metadirectory to all marine geological samples and cores, collected by European institutes in the oceans and European continental waters. Within EUROSEISMICS the following functionalities were developed for covering metadata on seismic surveys: - Data-entry with on-line data import module - On-line data edit - Data quality-control - Data-retrieval by means of a map interface in combination with numerical extended search (allowing searches on mandatory and/or optional metadata fields) - Data export - GIS-based geographical interface for navigation and presentation The EU-SeaSed webservice is operational and maintained by regular contributions from geological partners in Europe. A service contract has been established between EuroGeoSurveys and MARIS as operator. At present the metadirectory contains more than 300,000 samples / cores and more than 1 million km of seismic surveys from more than 40 originators. The metadirectory has an attractive user-interface combining alpha-numeric and geographical query and presentation features. |
